START!

Vanderbilt is partnering with the American Heart Association to offer the Start! initiative. Health Plus and Vanderbilt Heart are providing this physical activity program for faculty and staff and encouraging everyone to participate. Join in reaching the goal of 3000 participants and 1.5 billion combined steps by December 31, 2009.

How can I register?
Log in with your VUNet ID and e-password and you will be registered.

What’s in my starter kit?
Each registered participant receives a paper tracking log for your activities and resources to help you succeed. You can receive a starter kit by visiting Health Plus during all hours of operation, at Vanderbilt Marketing Outreach (3401 West End-suite 470W) or stop by at the Vanderbilt Valet at Medical Center North or the Children’s Hospital. If you are unable to pick up a starter kit, submit a request for campus delivery. One pedometer per person is available, upon request at Health Plus, but is not necessary to participate.

How do I track my physical activity?
From the Start! homepage click Track your steps here. You will be taken to the Online Step Tracker. Log in with your VUNet ID and e-password. Choose the date of activity and record your pedometer total or choose another activity and the minutes you spent doing it (this will be converted to steps). Be sure to click Submit. This page will also show your steps history and your progress toward the prize goal.

Is Start! just about walking?
No. Start! is about being more physically active. Find an activity you like and track what you do. Any activity you do will be converted to steps.

Are there prizes?
Yes! You can qualify for a prize for each of 4 challenges in 2009.
